We saw this in the sand dunes in several places. I think it might be Pancratium maritimum. Didn't find the flower in question, but did find a photo with very similar foliage in the background of another shot.


Like I said, I'm no botanist, but they look very similar to me. I was imagining some clodhopper outa Tennessee who was a banjo picker or downhome fiddler plus being a loyal union man!! Many thanks, Susan, that second photo link is definitely the flower I meant. Its English name seems to be Sea Daffodil, which is definitely easier to remember than the Latin one.
